A proven leader

I’m a successful businesswoman who has made Johnson County my home. When I was just 14, I worked in cornfields to help take care of my parents. Hard work and helping our community were core beliefs my parents instilled in our family. Those beliefs have stayed with me throughout my life and my work.

  • I have proudly served as District 6 County Commissioner since 2021.

  • Olathe is my home and I live here with Chase and Scout, my Havanese dogs.

  • Spending time with family – my son Travis and his wife Heather, my stepchildren Jay and Katie, as well as my grandchildren – is the joy of my life. I miss my daughter Tiffany every day, but I focus on keeping her memory alive through Tiff Tiff’s Warrior Fund.

  • Currently, I am a member of the Olathe, DeSoto, and Gardner Chambers of Commerce, National Association of Planning Council, American Health Care Association, and Women Who Mean Business. I was one of the first women to join the Olathe Noon Rotary Club. Due to business travel, I was unable to continue. It was an honor rejoin Johnson County Rotary this summer.

  • A longtime supporter of our amazing public schools, I’m a proud sustaining member of our Olathe Public Schools Foundation Women’s Giving Circle. I understand that public education is at the heart of our community.

  • Because agriculture has always been important to me, I am a member of Gardner Grange and the Kansas Farm Bureau.

  • I am a champion for women’s cardiac health. After surviving an aortic aneurysm which could have easily gone undetected, I founded The Shirley Fund for Cardiology at the University of Kansas Health Systems in 2006.

  • As CEO of The Sweet Life, I led teams developing Elderly Continuum Living Communities. Part of this role was building an award-winning national model for people living with Alzheimer’s disease. I later founded and ran Allenbrand & Associates Design, LLC which focused on design for Senior Living Communities.

  • I was appointed to the Heart Funding Council and the Advancement Board at the University of Kansas Health Systems as well as Friends of Cedar Crest, a nonprofit that focuses on the restoration and preservation of the Governor's residence.

I’m Shirley. I’m always seeking ways to bring ideas to life and make our community the best place it can be.

I hope you’ll support me as I seek re-election as District 6 Commissioner.
